So I purchased SWG the complete online whatever. And in the process of downloading the 4gig data file I seem to keep burning the wireless card out at least I keep getting memory errors that are related to the wireless driver.
It reminded me very much of the marathon benchmarks that some people run to -*test*-('") for stability. The first time i tried to run the download after 4 hours the card crapped out and i had to start the download from scratch. (I was not happy) the second time it ran for 20 hours before it crapped out (thankfully it remembered it's place this time.) So i have roughly 2-4 hours remaining and i'm wondering if it's normal for a wireless card to overheat or develop fatal memory errors (hopefully it's not the memory going south) after 20 hours pulling 50k/s (abysmal speed i know and hate)
The card if i remember correctly is a WMP54GS linksys wireless G PCI card.
I think the problem is more likely with the download server than with your wireless card, esp. because of the huge file size. Had you noticed connection or download issues before, or are there connections issues with the internet or other downloads?
this is a terrible connection I think it's a wireless-B router run by the apartment. They also say there's a 20mb bandwidth limit. I find that debatable. 20mb is pretty paltry and they don't do anything if i break it many dozens of times over.
when running speed -*test*-('")s i get similar results as my DSL connection (1.5meg down .5meg up) at home. However I think the connection is intermittent here or the "band width limit" affects all downloads even small downloads under 20mb can be exceptionally slow. Gaming can be really choppy too. (they do have a tool that can monitor the bandwidth so i can see if i'm over but that doesn't work for more than 5 minutes before the window goes "access denied")
I found it amusing that such a long download would cause it to crap out like it did I think the total time was around 24-26 hours.
and to top it all off the activation code is borked
Do you have the installation CD or files to remove and reinstall the wireless router driver? If you'd do that, you activation code may work again.
Grim-
It could be overheating. Do you have adequate cooling in that area? If not sure just sticky tape an old fan to blow on it and see if it runs longer.
the activation code for the download got borked...it's a separate issue was sent via e-mail when i bought the download. It says it's already in use which is just frustrating. As far as i can tell everything works fine it's just that the download was exceptionally long. Other than trying another 24hour long download there's really no way to -*test*-('") for these long term stress errors.
It's more likely the router going haywire than the card itself. When my gamers are downloading big patches, it's not uncommon for me to have to reboot the router to get the connections to stay up.
