MTM - sure.

Do you want the estimate @ stock or at overclock?  If at overclock, what MHz would you be shooting for and what is the max vcore you'd use?  Also, would you overclock your video cards?

Both, if possible wink.gif

I will start at stock, but i will be doing some overclocking later on.
I haven't actually checked what the standard VCore for the CPU is, but i assume that it is lower than in older CPU's? Anyway, i won't be shooting over 4Ghz, more like 3,5 or something in that area.

GPU's i would probably overclock slightly, maybe around 10% or something like that. Of course i'd might want to try something more extreme at times, but not for 24/7 use.

At stock about 550 w
At 3500MHz oc - about 640w
At 4Ghz - about 700w

Add at most 50w to each for about a 10% video oc.

All estimates are high, as I've selected the psu and all components @ 100% load, which would only happen during intense benching or heavy gaming.

So, it seems that the current PSU is enough for my current goals...
Also, the PSU is only 4 months old, so it should have quite a lot of juice left.

Yes - you'll be fine for most cases.

However, if you're up at 4GHz, have the vids oc'ed and are running really hard, your psu's going to be at its top end. Most psu's list peak power and you'd only be able to stay at that power level for maybe 5 - 10 minutes, because it @ 750w you'd be beyond the 80%-85% capability (700w - 725w), which is a truer rating of a psu.

Well the answer is yes - it does work with my rig - so far no power related problems, I am not yet in a position to change any other hardware so maybe I should see if I can get a little more out of what I have got. I have followed advice so far in this forum and that was to upgrade video card and drop down to two sticks of ram - so I think I am now in a position to start tweaking things. Mb, processor, memory - waddya think? and where to start? doesn't seem to be much point tweaking the video card since the processor is probably already holding that back?

Oh one other thing, I did start another thread about a shut down problem I had, basically my PC goes to the windows is shutting down screen then to a plain blue screen and just stays there - an interesting thing happened the other night whilst installing my new card - I removed my drivers from my 7800gtx then rebooted and it didn't get stuck - as soon as I installed my 8800gtx and installed drivers it started doing it again - It does this consistently every time. Any idea why video drivers would cause this behavior?

It sure sounds like a driver compatibility problem, Grandad. Are your chipset and video drivers the la-*test*-('")? Sometimes, an earlier release of video drivers will fix a problem like this.
