Hi all,
Seeing as almost everyone is defecting to Intel lately, and achieving unbelievable o/c's, I am in a quandry as to which components are compatible. The newish E6750 can be had for a lot less than the E6600 or the E6700.....but has restrictions seemingly. The only chipsets that suit the 6750 are the P35 and the Nv 680, to quote the reviews, so which non-SLI Asus mobo would fit the bill? Also what memory spec would be required to suit this combination? Maybe the 6750 is not the way to go, regardless of price. Any thoughts on the matter would be as usual, very much appreciated, thank you, Dee.
Dee-
What prices are you seeing there? The difference between the two is the 6750 uses a 1333 FSB and the 6600 uses the 1066MHZ FSB. Most, if not all, of the la-*test*-('") mobos are 1333 capable with a BIOS flash. If, however, you want a non-SLI board I would go for the Asus P5K Deluxe that Paulzig and cool_case are running. They have had great luck with them.
Luck?... Thats 'skill' my friend. But yeah.. Asus P5K deluxe,premium etc... and an e6750 or e6850 like I have works great, unless you want to go Quad? Prices have dropped considerably..

Paul is currently the SuperPi king here so we all must bow to his skills.
Are you also upgrading graphics Dee? If funds are limited you may be better served spending the money on an 8800 or 2900 series card. You'll get an incredible boost in gaming performance and the card can slide to a new rig whenever the funds are replenished. Using the 6600s in a Core 2 rig won't do much for games.
Hi all, sorry for the delay in replying and thank you all for your input. To put you all in the picture, I don't play games on the pc.....well maybe the odd game of Spider.....I use it for the odd video edit and burn, and normal everyday jobs. I originally wanted to take the 939 as far as it would go, CPU wise, and was tempted with the Opteron 185. As well as being scarse, the AMD is very expensive so I decided to take a walk on the wild side. The current crop of Intel CPU's are getting great reviews, and by comparison aren't as expensive as their AMD rivals. After researching the market I have decided to go with the E6750 but the only reviews I have read on them state that only the P35 chipset supports them. That means a P35 based Asus board as in the P5K. Bearing all that in mind, what do you think would be the range of memory that could be used on said mobo, is it governed by the 1333mHz as well? Current price for E6750 is less than £120.00, while the E6700 is still in the region of £170.00. To date I have decided on;
CPU........E6750
Mobo.......Asus P5K Deluxe
Memory.....?
Graphics, Merc, wouldn't annoy me that much at the minute, so possibly down the line I'll upgrade to something more substantial. I have always had a need for speed, but never worried about the scenery. Again thank you all, Dee.
Whaaaaaattttt!!!!!, not from the last time I looked Merc (lol)
I'm trying to figure out where when and how you came to that conclusion
LMAO, sorry mate I mixed you up with "Dart", you're "the dart". My bad.
Hehehe, can't get to my age in life without gaining a sense of humour, I don't worry about what I'm called....... as long as it's not " too early in the morning"
I didn't realise you already had a 'dart' or I'd have picked something else.
I hear that, hitting the big 48 today.

She hasn't been on in awhile so no worries with the nick.
