I've been waiting to rebuild my RMA'ed A8N-SLI Premium mobo with its socket-939 Athlon 64 FX-60, 2 GB RAM, 7800 GT video card, and 600W PSA into a new case with appropriate other spare parts. It'll become our second/backup to our P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP daily driver PC running XP Pro SP2. I figured we'd use the rebuild (with eventually an upgraded DX10 mid-range video card) as our non-critical learning platform to ease ourselves into Vista's many "undocumented features". I thought I'd wait until the Vista 32-bit OEM install CD includes SP1, as the trigger event to start the rebuild.

Has anybody seen an update when SP1 will be available through the usual retail channels like newegg.com? Thanks.

The beta is out there now but all reports say it is little more than a compilation of old patches. Some changes but no need to wait IMHO as it may be a couple of months.

I thought it was the RC that was out there. I guess I haven't been paying much attention.

Actually its the RC Refresh whats out there now, which is step two in the process. So probably just a few more months until we get the end result.

Thanks for your responses. Sounds like status is about what I've read in my various PC mags. Maybe I can put a spin on this with my wife, so I can go ahead and make this rebuild my winter Vista project now, in anticipation of SP1 when(ever) it does hit the streets. (I need to reset her expectations before the newegg boxes start arriving again. "The best defense is a good offense."). Cheers! cool.gif

The best case scenario is to get a Vista dvd that has SP1 incorporated into it. I have multiple copies of Vista but would like to trade those in for upgraded discs when SP1 comes out.

I would assume you can slipstream them when SP1 comes out. If this isn't true, it would be a giant pain.
