Hey guys

Just a quick and simple question I want to get rid of my old and fairly slow beige DVD writer and want to replace it with a shiny new Black 1, now my main question is should i go for a SATA DVD Writer?

What are the advantages of getting a SATA DVD writer?

What are the drawbacks if any?

My main reason for getting a SATA DVD Drive is slowly getting rid of my big and cumbersome IDE cables!!!

Also on a side note does any1 have a creative I/O BOX and if they do do they no if i can get a longer and a wrapped cable?

Cheers for any help

Stu

So went for the IDE although if you do go with SATA i'd be interested in how it goes.

Hello all!
Nice place ya got here... Thank-You

I have just built this system. (specs in sig)

I have both sata and ide dvd/w drives and -*test*-('")ed this
Unscientifically by burning the same
files on same media.

I saw varying results from hum to wow on the side of the sata drive.. the biggest boost
was from backing up dvd's from disk, one movie finished about 10 min. sooner.

The ide's firmware was updated to 18x18 same ratings as the sata

Whats really nice is burning two diffrent things at the same time and
not taking the big hit as before this system...

I have a few quirks that are aggravating and hope to find some answers here
and to help others when I can.

Thanks again
Slim

Another bonus of using a SATA DVD if you have all SATA HDDs is that you can turn of the IDE channels in BIOS and free up resources and get a drastically faster boot. At least I noticed faster boot under Windows XP Pro.
