getting excited about the release of the phenom quad core is there any truth in the rumor of this chip being 40% faster than intels quad

CapnKirk- 09-29-2007
does it matter?

there will always be something faster coming..

actually, there are several faster cpu's, gpu's, sata-super-X drives, the asus OMG mobo with liquid fiber circuits at 5333 fsb, ddr3+3 optical ram and other crap on a shelf somewhere.

but they have to sell the stuff they came up with last year as if it was new tech.

milk the public... rolleyes.gif

thats a good point, but i thought that intels quad core was the daddy at the moment

CapnKirk- 09-29-2007
As far as the public eye is concerned, it is!

When they milk that dry, the next one comes off the shelf.

Right now there isn't a game that comes close to running slow on a full blown game rig, unless it's coded like crap.

the capn is right. it's all about planned obsolesence. with no real base for the world economy if they didn't keep the money moving around the economy would collapse. if we all kept our money in the bank in 6 months we'd have a depression that made the great depression look like the good times. that's why madison ave exists, to convince us to buy stuff we don't need or want. but it wouldn't be much fun if we only bought what we absolutely need.

unfortunatly
i am one of those people that seek the best then buy its like the fx60 at the time and that blew up in my face i guess i will probably never learn but thats just me lol

same here, but that has come to an end... wink.gif

That blackbird patch is pretty sexy capn put that on a uniform and start walkin around with in it.

Gamespot had a more favorable review of the phenom. they still point out that it's not king of the hill but for the money there's a lot more bang for the buck

If we devide the PCM'06 score by the cost (all values according to GS) we see the Q67 gets a value of 7.560pts/$ (4162/550) and the 9900 gets a value of 11.21pts/$ (3925/350) that is a lot more bang for the buck. It's hardly an accurate definition but it's good for comparing products that don't have the same price or power.

Anyway for $200 less than the Q67 you get about the same power. It may not be king of the hill but the price point certainly makes me think about it. I wonder how low this will force the intelQ's. To get the same pts/$ value intel would only have to go as low as $375 on the Q67. It would be interesting to see how close they come to that.
