I am using a P5K motherboard with two drives one connected as a boot disk drive C:\ and a the other as a data disk drive D:\.
I am thinkling of setting up the disks which are a matched pair in a RAID configuration and just wanted to check how to do this on the P5K board as the manual is not that clear.
Can I use the two Red SATA internal connections for the RAID or do I need to use the internal RAID connector and the external connector.
If so does that mean that I need to have an external hard drive connected to the external connector. This seems a bit strange to me.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
No you will use the SATA ports you are plugged into. When you enable RAID you designate which ports will be part of the array. The drives connected to those ports will then be he RAID drives. Will this be a RAID 0 or 1? Are you planning on reinstalling windows to accomplish this?
Yes I am going to reinstall Windows XP on the new RAID drives. I am going to backup the system and then restore it to the drive once I have put Windows XP back on.
