here is the specs:
A8N-32 sli deluxe
amd 64 3700 w/ box heatsink and fan- running hot
nvidia 7300gt- 1 card
1.5 gigs ram
bios version 1009
I just got this board yesterday after RMA'ed other board(different brand). Hooked everything up cleaned heatsink and cpu with alcohol reapplied thermal grease...
Fired it up idiling in bios the cpu temperature heats up to 68 degrees celcius(156f)
The MB temp is around 100f.
I have 5 case fans in the right orientation 2 in the front pushing in and the 2 in the back pulling out. Plus the side pushing in on top the processor.
1. The heatsink is firmly secured with the perfect amount of grease
2. We tried cooling it with a box fan and it didn't make a difference.
I'm thinking the BIOS needs updating. Anyone have any suggestions.

what case do you have? is the fan actually spinning on the heatsink? what were the temps on the old board, which board was it?

If it is not running the la-*test*-('") bios
1303 then I would definately update it.

I looked on the asus website 1405 is out should I go with that or the 1303?
also fyi I can touch heatsink and it's no 156 f !!!

Go with the la-*test*-('") BIOS. That is either a bad sensor or a BIOS issue. If the BIOS flash doesn't fix it then RMA the board. The A8N32 is a great motherboard. One of my all time favorites, so don't give up on it. A bunch of us here did some great O/Cing on that board before we all went to the darkside.

I personally never tried the 1405 bios, since I switched boards before it came out.
Thats why I recommended 1303, it is tried and true and I know that it works great.
1405 is more for Vista I think. I have seen mixed reviews on the 1405, up to you.

You're probably right mate. I second 1303. very stable and good O/Cing BIOS

thanks merc and wanna go fast I'll give it a try and let you all know!!!

one of the past bios adjusted the temp readings, but i think it only lowered them 3-5 degreesC (7-10F), that could be part of your fix, if the heatsink doesnt feel real hot then it prob isnt. i agree with moving to 1303 bios, dont know anything about 1405

RMA is probably for the best. Something was definately wrong.
Either that board was messed up or somthing wasnt together quite right for those temps.
Get back with us when you get your new parts, and we'll see whats up then.
