Hey folks,
I'm just getting around to overclocking my system after reinstalling windows about 2 months ago. The last time a overclocked my system was 2 years ago and I forgot a few things. So I have a couple of 'Dummy' questions.

2 years ago, with your help, I achieved some optimal (albeit basic) overclock settings. They were:

CPU Frequency - 240
CPU Multiplier - 10
CPU Core Speed - 2405
CPU VCore - 1.3625 to 1.375
HTT Multiplier - 4
HT running @ 960
Memclock/Divider - 333
Memory Speed - 200
Memory Vdimm - 2.70
Memory timings were Cas2.5, Tras6, Trcd3, Trp3, etc.

I was able to set CPU Freq., Multiplier, Vcore, HTT Multiplier, Vdimm and memory timings without any questions.
My Dummy questions are:

1 - The Memclock/Divider on my board (A8N SLI Premium) is listed as 'Memclock Index Value' under Advanced/Dram Configuration. Is that correct?

2 - The memory speed of 200 is just a resulting value, but there is nothing that I set to 200, is that correct?

3- Similarly, the HT @ 960 is also a resulting value of HT Muliplier times CPU Frequency, not a setting, correct?

Thanks
HC

i have the same board in it box in a closet somewhere ... it's been 2yrs since i used and not sure on you first ? .. but in a few hours i can tell you "i'putting it the wife's computer

exp.

my old setup 4000+ on a A8N-SLI Prem.

CUP Freq"FSB" = 265

CPU Mult. = 11

CPU Volt. = 1.550

HT = 4x

Memory = 200mhz @ 1:1 2.5-3-3-8-2T

DDR Volt = 2.9

Chipset Volt = 1.5

HT Volt = 1.2

gave me 2.92GHz vs. 2.4 stock

not sure if this will help you ... like i said it's been 2yrs .. but this is what i had wrote down from back then ... "Don't try these settings! your CPU/Ram would not work at these settings"

If any of the asustech/red_admin.gifs or asustech/blu_mod.gifs have an answer to my questions, it would be much appreciated.
thanks

1- think it's the same ?/answer to 2 ... if not i will have to get back to you on this one

2- if i remember right you have something called "Max Memclock" but not sure if thats what your talking about ... can be changed from: Auto, DDR200, DDR266, DDR333, DRR400, .......... up to DDR600

3- yes that is right ... 960 come for youe fsb x htt mult. "240x 4 = 960"

HC-
My oldie but goodie A8N Overclocking thread may help with dividers and such. http://asustech.15.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=622

Comb through the ADM section as Wanna and I did a whole lot of OC'ing on the A8N32.

Thanks guys for your responses. I was lazy and didn't want to reread Merc's guide, but I broke down and read it. Interestingly enough, I wasn't able to get my rig stable with the same settings it had before I reinstalled XP. So I kept my 3800x2 at stock (2.0Ghz).
My temps have been increasing over the last year and I think I have an issue with the thermal paste degrading. Getting my board out of and back into the case (in order to reapply the paste) is a 1 or 2 hour deal. I'll be rebuilding my rig when I get the Q9450, a new Intel board and DDR2 memory. So, I'll wait til then (a couple of months from now). I've already bought some Corsair C4 memory (I got 4GB sticks for $50 after rebates - eeee!).
I'll be hitting you guys up for some suggestions when I'm ready to buy my mobo, so keep researching. biggrin.gif
