Well my new Opteron 165 has arrived....Its stepping is...(drumroll)

CCBBE 0616 XPMW. Which is supposed to be one of the better steppings.
Gonna get to work here shortly and get it installed and start -*test*-('")ing it out.

Here's a lil preview of the Team Group TCCD DDR 600 running with my current single core Opty 146.

Prime stable for a quick 1 hour run of old school Prime95 torture -*test*-('").
If the new X2 Opty can do 3Ghz this ram will certainly keep up with it. biggrin.gif

Props to billb as most of the memory sets used are from his record breaking SuperPi run cool.gif

*Update*
So far I'm at 2700MHz 9x300 1.36-1.38v (in windows) running quick 5 minute blends of Orthos.
PCProbe is tellin me about 44c and CoreTemp is 52/49 under load.
Gonna have to explore the 183 divider next as im about outta gas at 1-1 ram sets.
Gonna let Orthos Blend run for a little while this time....make sure it's stable so far.

We got some good chips mate!!!!!! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Same exact stepping and I'm at 2772 with RAM on the 166, Vc is 1.30 and temp is 40c after 1 hour blend (ambient 74.3f). I am amazed that this thing is running faster than my 4400X2 on 1.30v. It took 1.54v for the 4400. Woot!!

Ran at 2800 but Orthos fails at 2m20s. 3.0 looks very doable from here Wanna.

I couldn't be happier right now. 54% overclock at 1.30v. HS Batman. Idles at 31c in a warm room with new AS5.

Just got my new Opte 165 from Newegg (ordered 11/6, delivered 11/9) and the stepping looked real good so I popped open the box and installed it. Also moved some fans around and connected one of my radiator fans to the fan controller. CPU BIN/Stepping is:

Opteron 165
OSA165DAA6CD
CCBE0616XPMW

Wanna got the same stepping and was logging 2700MHZ so after checking everything out I ran it at 2500MHZ and all was well so I went right to 2700. The thing is rock solid at 1.30v Vcore at 2700MHZ. Ran Orthos for an hour and checked out 2800MHZ at 1.30v. Orthos failed at 2m20s. So dropped it down to 308 FSB.

Running right now at 2772MHZ (308x9) 1.30v Vcore, RAM on 166 divider (252MHZ) 1hr.+ Orthos Blend, stopped manually for AS5 curing. Temp is 40c in 74f room. All I can say is unbelievable. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hope you don't mind Merc...figured it would be a good idea to merge my posts
into your thread, so as to keep all of our comparitive info in one place wink.gif

Tried the 183 divider last night for a while, but met with lots of instability.
Freezing up in the bios, failed soft reboots, and having to start throwing a
bunch of vcore to keep it rebooting and running orthos for any length of time.

I never had any luck using that divider with my old setup either.....
so I'm ditching that idea for now and going to 166 to follow your lead.

I did make it up to 2850MHz, but I needed to give almost 1.45v to settle things down.
Gonna go back to what was stable at 2.7 today and work up again on a 166 divider this time.

Oh and I see you have joined in the thread at Xtreme cool.gif lotsa good opty info there.

Another question I have for you Merc is what driver do you have installed for X2?
So far I just removed my single core and popped in the dual core. I didnt install any drivers for it yet.
Windows picked up on the change and installed and recognizes the dual core fine at this point.
I was contemplating doing a clean install of XPsp2 just to make sure their are no ghosts left behind that could hinder me.

In fact I'm going to do that right now since I have lotsa time.....be back in a bit.

Wanna-
No problem merging topics. I started a separate one so as not to hijack yours since you were off line by the time I got this chip up and running and were dealing with new RAM etc. I was going to ask if you wanted to combine them today. Better to merge them.

I'm using the driver from here http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Techni...1_13118,00.html
1.3.1.0 . I didn't reinstall it but device manager shows it as working on both cores. blink.gif

Right now I am 2806MHZ. 1.36v Othos Blend stable for 37m24s. Ram is on the 166 at 255MHZ 2.7v 3844 1T. HT@3x for 935MHZ. I screwed up last night and never moved the HT multi. (tired). With HT Overvolt enabled I was running at over 1500MHZ on the HT!! (look at the earlier screen post. blink.gif). Speaks volumes for the 32 that it ran Orthos at those speeds for over an hour with HT at 1500+ MHZ. Something to explore later on. I have disabled HT Ov and dropped the multi to 3x.

If it hits an hour here I'll post an image.

Update-
Didn't hit an hour. Test Stopped at 51m.

That doesnt really surprise me as I found myself having to add voltage at about that point as well.
2.7 is still awesome for stock voltage, and it allows for plenty of headroom.

I have the same stepping as well. Gotta love Newegg!

I just jealous of all of you with your A8N32SLI's as they OC easier than my A8N Deluxe
I would get an A8N32 if I did not have to reinstall everything!

I have been at 2.6Ghz for a while, I need to try 2.7Ghz!

I switched from the A8N-Sli Deluxe to the A8N32 without having to re-install anything.
Just have to be careful if you use sata drives on NVraid as the ports are arranged differently is all.
Otherwise it was an uneventful straight up motherboard swap.....no issues here.

Merc- 11-10-2006
Yeah the 32 impressed me when I inadvertently ran the HT at 1500+MHz and it didn't balk. Set Orthos to small FFTs and the -*test*-('") ran for an 1h 15m before I knocked it off. I'll set the 133 divider and sort the RAM later so I can see how high this voltage will take me.

Update:
Definitely the RAM Wanna. Set on the 133 divider (205MHz for RAM) I am running Orthos blend at over an hour with FSB at 317 giving me 2853 at 1.36v. I'll let it run a bit and then shut down to cure the AS5 some more. CPU temps were above 42c all day but the room was at 77f (almost 80f outside). Just now going down so should have better temps tonight.

I just got everything reinstalled on this one. Had it set to 2.5GHz for the install.
Gonna shut it down while a make a run to the store as it's been running all day.
Then I'm gonna get back to business after dinner now that I know I have a clean slate to work with.

The A8N32 SLI has a $15 instant rebate at Newegg selling for $154.99

I just might pick one up!

I will be very interested to see how those chips perform once you pass 2.7. The 180 gets really finnicky at that point. When I start adding volts, it loses stability in Orthos very quickly. 2-3 hours is no problem, but long runs are an issue.
