My experience puts clock above low latencies.

Don't think I have the good stuff Cris
XMS4000v1.1 0640047-1

I posted a request at the Corsair forums.

No listing of that stuff on the IC thread....

Whats the good stuff TCCD? go easy on the vdimm mate.

I tried low, I tried high, I tried real high and no go. 2.5/3/3/6 1T at 215MHz is what I am running. Only thing I may try is CAS 2. Not bad and the sweet thing is this RAM actually cost less, by about $40, than the same stuff in DDR400 PC3200 flavor which runs at.........2.5/3/3/6 1T. biggrin.gif

Waiting to see how Wanna's chip did with better cooling.

At those speeds I'd venture to guess it will run cas2 just fine.

The CPU overclocking results at this point are not much better then they were on air.
But I have several different things going on at this point with this mess and I
am holding final judgement for the moment while I sort through everything else.

Wanna-
What is the la-*test*-('")? Will it go to 3.0? How are your temps?

Merc- 11-21-2006
On the Merc front I am trying to optimize my RAM. Tried 2.0 CAS but it wouldn't even boot to load the OS. Just got the failed O/C. So, I have gone back to 2.5/3/3/6 1T and dropped the Vdimm to 2.65v from 2.7v as per the advice from Cris and am running Orthos now. Just 200MB of RAM leftover so 1.5GB involved in the -*test*-('") and the rest is so I can run the rig and have all the background stuff on.

I have a little Thermaltake 62mm fan setup to blow on the RAM. It is a powerful little sucker (blower? wink.gif ) and the RAM is coll to the touch. If it goes an hour I'll drop it to 2.6v.

Update: Ran fine at 2.65. Running 2.6v now. If it goes 30 minutes at 2.6v I'll try 2.0 CAS at lower voltages as Cris suggested.

Temps are good.....under 50c at all times so far.
No go on the 3Ghz deal though....best I can hit is 2.9 so far.
And even that doesnt seem to be 100% stable. I have another on order.
Going to -*test*-('") and see if its the CPU or somthing else holding me back.

Had a customer wanting a new mack daddy gamer for his kid for Xmas.
Instead of cash payment he is buying me a pc p&c 750 a 165 with his parts order.
Whichever 165 is faster I will keep....the other goes in his kids new machine. wink.gif

The downside is NewEggs 3-4 day shipping has turned into 7 days with the holiday.
So I wont be able to do much of anything but play with what I have until early next week.
I will mess with the current setup more over the 4 day weekend. Just havent had the time yet.

Merc- 11-22-2006
Arggh. Frustrating as hell but maybe the next one will go 3.0 Monarch still hasn't refunded my money so I may be one up on you mate in frustrating 165 experiences.

The RAM seems fine at 2.6v on my rig. Couldn't run it a long time as the weather is terrible here (Nor'easter) and power is spotty. I'll let it go for a long spin at present settings startingthis afternoon.

CAS 2 just ain't gonna happen, however, at any voltage. Posts an "Overclock Failed" at CAS 2 no matter what the voltage. I tried 166 divider at lower voltages before and that was a no go, so, except for the final Vdimm, I can call this a done setup. sad.gif

On the bright side, the 7300GT should be arriving today and I can get started on my wife's new/old build on my old Deluxe w/ heatpipe mod. Recycling all my old parts and building her a real nice setup with just the vid card as new. Nice little card from the looks of it. 256MB of GDDR2 with 128bit interface, 8 pipes and 450/667 timing under a big passive heatpipe cooler. Under $75 which makes this a great choice for websurfing, video/photo editing and Vista later on IMHO.

Well, looks like the good buys from Newegg may be gone. Shipping CCBWE now. If you wanted one of the good 165s and waited it is probably too late. Hope you got your order in before the switch Wanna. Keeping my fingers crossed for you mate.

WannaGoFast- 11-28-2006
Received my order today....another CCBBE 0616 XPMW.
Will prolly have to hold out for -*test*-('")ing it til the weekend.
This new CPU cooler is a major pain in the ass to change cpus with.
No more swapping em in 30 seconds like with the XP90 wink.gif

Besides I want to -*test*-('") this one with the new power supply first.
Might drop that in tommorow after work and check it out.
Got someone elses pos on the workbench right now.
Gotta fix others pos's to pay for new parts for mine biggrin.gif

Merc- 11-28-2006
That's real good news Wanna. You must have just made it. See ya at 3.0 biggrin.gif

paulzig- 11-29-2006
Mates... I might have to get myself one of thes 165's to see if I can nail you guys.. have to go for a drive see what steppings my supplier has...

then i might see you @ 3.1- 1.45v tongue.gif

Its that or a conroe...

Just on a side note: Have any of you guys actually checked how high your boards will go taking the CPU and RAM out of the equation?

Merc- 11-29-2006
I had the HT at 1500MHz Orthos stable for an hour till I realized I had forgotten to reset the HT multi. biggrin.gif The board didn't seem to ind but it was a HS moment for yours truly. It is safely back at 984MHz now.

I have had the FSB up to 350MHz but the CPU wouldn't hear of it. The board was fine, the CPU was just past its enevlope. My 165 will boot at 3100MHz -3150MHz and is Orthos stable for 5 minutes at 3100 but that is as far as I have had this board.

This is the chip I got last wednesday from newegg as well. I have PSU issues at the moment but in the process of finding out that my Antec PSU is a POS I had gotten the chip upto 2.5+ Ghz. Any info on what this stepping should or might be capable of? Kind of on a budget here so will have to live with this chip for a while. dry.gif
