OK....I can see where this is going real fast wink.gif
These dual cores are a real biatch to keep cool arent they.
I have some top notch air cooling gear in this rig but it just isnt gonna cut it.
So is this the water cooling kit your all using? rolleyes.gif

Arlie- 11-10-2006
Yes, that is what I'm using at the moment. However, please read my notes in the 180 thread about issues with the torque on the fittings from those massive tubes. It keeps the dual cores cool, but it's been a bear to keep leak free.

WannaGoFast- 11-10-2006
Gotta love my ol lady......she says if I am going to go through all that...

Then I would be crazy not not to replace my old crappy antec case
with a nice new black one to match all the rest of my current gear.

So now she has me eyeballing this badboy. Thoughts anyone?

Cant buy that case and that water cooling seperately for that price wink.gif

Arlie- 11-10-2006
A Lian-Li PCG70 and a Swiftech 220 kit from Newegg is about $10 cheaper. That would give you a full tower and a lot more room, and it's dual PSU capable.

That is nice Arlie cool.gif I like that a lot....even more now that I realize the side
window in the other is not included and is $80 bux more on top of that price.
I'm not a big fan of windows and bling bling crap anyway wink.gif

Hmm.....me thinks I may go that route here real soon...need to do a few jobs first.

Arlie- 11-10-2006
I really have fallen in love with that case, it's very easy to set up and very roomy, even with two PSUs and water cooling.

Merc- 11-10-2006
I'd love one of those cases but the 1100 has grown on me. Plus it is to modded to part with now. biggrin.gif

Well, this chip booted right up at 2906MHZ on 1.36v and ran in Orthos Bllend for 52 minutes before failing. Max temp was 41c in 74.3 f room. I am duly impressed. I'll bump it up to 1.39v and run Orthos later after a little cool down.

Im about 5 minutes into the same -*test*-('") in your pic Merc. On a 166 divider though.
Of course my temps are much higher as well as my voltage to achieve it due to temps. wink.gif
But as you can see AJ and I have been discussing how I'm gonna fix that problem real soon.
May have to just abuse the ol Credit card a little......I normally dont buy parts I
dont have the "cash" to pay for, but I may make an exception in this case rolleyes.gif
Call it an early Christmas present to myself or something LOL biggrin.gif

Arlie- 11-10-2006
You're killing me guys, I really want to know where those chips will run 12 hours stable.

WannaGoFast- 11-10-2006
Well AJ It looks like I'm prolly outta gas with my current cooling solution.
Its running orthos right now at 2.9 with 1.55v and temps are to scary to mention.(58c)
I'm gonna guess that I will have to back down to around 2.8GHz for normal ops.
Merc on the other hand may easily achieve 3Ghz at the rate he is going. I eagerly await his results.
I know I'm gonna have to put some water on this chip if I'm ever gonna get there.
Got a cart loaded at NewEgg......just waiting on his results to pull the trigger wink.gif

guys those OC's are amazing

merc, how in the world did you get the HT up to 1500. i'm taking my first steps into ocing and get get mine to boot at 1075 (215*5), i have to lower the multi down to 4 on my a8n32 deluxe and x2 4200

wanna, that new setup with the lian li pc-g70 and water is lookin great, i found the link below but thats an extra $35 and got more "bling". i havent seen anything on the gigabyte case with water but i've seen a few people saying that on air its horrid. i think that lian li is the better choice since it has more room

edit* i take it back this does not include a full water kit and therefor cost much more

That case looks great but i don't like how they have the rads mounted. Why not use the radbox instead of blowing hot air into the case? get the G70 and a kit form Swiftech and do it your self. Check out Xoxide. They are better than the Egg but have a limited selection (cases and cooling mostly).

Remember you are still a slave to ambient air but at a much lower rate than a pure air cooling system. I can watch my temps rise and fall with the temps in this room but 41c at 2910GHZ, Orthos blend (with both chipsets in the loop) at 1.38v is very nice temp-wise.

I didn't realize you had DDR600 RAM. I didn't realize you could even buy that! biggrin.gif Post a link for me will you? That stuff is made for this chip.

Back at 323 FSB with 1.38v now and 21 minutes in. 41c on the CPU w/ ambient at 73.8f. Made it 50+ minutes before soo lets see if a little volt jolt gets it stable for a couple of hours. Weird thing is CPUz reports CPU speed at 2917MHZ but everyting else says 2910MHZ. I am still in awe at seeing those numbers on my rig. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Update: An hour in and running at 1.38v and 2910MHZ looks good. Temp at 41c (74f ambient) and RAm on the 133. I may stay here for awhile and let the chip burn in before I get any higher on the voltage. One observation is that this CPU seems so stable at all times. Nothing scientific, just a feel you get from watching the rig run.

64Dragon-
LOL. I had no idea that I was at 1500+ on the HT till I booted this morning and reviewed my BIOS. I inadvertently left the HT at 5x with 300+ on the FSB! rolleyes.gif I even went and checked my image posts just to make sure that something weird hadn't happened.

Still's reset switch makes it too easy sometimes. biggrin.gif What is surprising is the board never squawked. I did have HT Overvolt on and apparently it works! I had no intent of going past 1100 or so and was as surprised as you are at those numbers. I was tired and just screwed up (that little guy in the tunnel to the left wears an old man out). Nice to know that this board is capable of those numbers though.

Merc- 11-11-2006
This is it for tonight. 3+ hours Orthos stable at 2910MHz (323x9) at 1.38v Vcore. 42c CPU at 74.1f ambient. Gotta be happy with that.

With the morning sun comes back all the harsh realities of real life rolleyes.gif
I set things back to 2.8, as 2.9 was just to hot, and it wouldnt run Orthos for very long at any voltages.
This chip is excellent, and I'm sure it has 3GHz in it, but it's gonna take some better cooling.
Gonna back it down to 2.7 300x9 with ram 1-1 and see how far I can go up on the ram from there.
Im guessing somewhere between 2.75 and 2.8 with the ram running 1-1 will be my max for now on air.
(depends on how far over 300 the ram will go wink.gif )

I reviewed my cart at the Egg and realize that there is just no way I can justify spending $600 on PC gear right now.
Thats how much it would cost by the time I get everything I would want to make this a sweet and nice looking build.
There's to many other more important things I need to do around here to worry about how my case looks.

Pitched out everything but the water cooling kit for the moment, and am now planning a more reasonable
approach by cleaning up and painting my existing case black and water cooling in it for my first trip into it.
Its a full tower old school Antec, and is really a very nice case. Just to many years of nicotene built up on.
(I used to be a heavy smoker and always had one going in the ashtray in here.
My much less frequent smoke breaks now take place outside on the back porch.)
A good scrubbing and a couple coats of nice satin black inside and out will get me by for some time to come.

@Merc the ram is only a 1GB kit as I dont do anything here that even begins to use 2GB.
Team Group TCCD DDR 600 is the company that makes it, and I purchased it at Computer Giants
I would have posted a direct link for you but their website seems to be having issues this morning.
That's the first time I ever dealt with them and although their communication of tracking numbers left a
lot to be desired, everything else went smooth. There are only 2 retailers in the US to buy from.
Tank Guys being the other.

So far I'm pretty pleased with how this is going.....and will continue once better cooling is in place.
