OK, I have 1 DVD Rom, 1 Cd burner , 1IDE HD, and 1 SATA(now). That mobo has 2 ide ports. Can I run the SATA with XP Pro, put the old ide HD as master on 1 ide, then the 2 cdroms (set as master\slave) on the other ide? I also have an external USB dvd burner, but i'm sure that doesn't matter.
Thanks again Merc,

That will work fine Mark. I forgot the P5N-E had two IDE ports. Good luck and let us know how it goes or just post if you hit a problem.
OK fellas, I got the goodeis. a couple questions..... For the memory to run dual channel, do i need 1 stick in A1, then the other in B1? also, i lost the info for mounting the Zalman 9500. I have the front and back brackets, the clip for the middle of the cooler, but only 3 of the 4 screws that hold the back bracket to the front throught the mobo. Could that cause a problem? or for temporary. just use the oem cooler that the chip came with? And as far as dual channel memory, what slots do i need to use for my DDR667?
Thanks Guys,
Mark
It should be tha A1 and B1, which should be the same color. Coming from the cpu, the 1st and 3rd slot. That will give you the dual channel feature.
You probably don't want to have just 3 screws when mounting the backplate. The 9500 would be alot better than the stock HSF, but if you can't find that fourth one or don't have a hardware store close by, then the stock one will have to due for now.
*Contemplated pulling out the welder!!
You really should use 4 screws to get even tension on the bracket, it will not make proper contact with the HSF otherwise..
Here are the zalman 9500 instructions from their website, they even have a little flash movie..

The definition of floppy changes according to circumstance but in your case its a 3.5 inch disk as used in ye olde days. Do you want to make a RAID disk, or flash the BIOS??
Why Is is asking you to make a floppy?
It's going ok now. The RAID and Flash issue arent important to me at this point. Can you suggest a good video driver fot this BFG 8600GTS OC2? Or should I jusy swipe the la-*test*-('")?
Thanks,
Mark
Here is the la-*test*-('") "official" released drivers for Windows XP:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_162.18.html OK, the old box hit 19,000 and change on 3dMark '01. With the new build i hit 42,200, so I think i'm headed in the right direction. I'm NOT a benchmark warrior, but very pleased with the number increase!!!

Sounds like an awesome upgrade. You should update you signature under "my controls".
Done.. So what's a good program to monitor temps and so forth?? I've used Everest in the past.

Ok, here's the deal. It runs perfect with just the SATA drive plugged in, When i try to plug int the 250GB IDE drive, is gives me a disk boot failure. Almost like it's looking for an OS on the IDE drive. I unplug the IDE, and she fires right up. Any suggestions?? (Everything else is working perfect). I had it working perfect with both drives, then attempted to update the BIOS from 0505 (i think it was), so it has to be something in the BIOS?
Thanks,
Mark
That is exactly what it is doing. When you install a new HDD that windows hasn't seen before the BIOS will default to that drive as the first boot HDD. Turn off the PC and turn off or unplug the PSU, hit the power switch to discgharge any residual voltage in the system, plug the drive in, reboot, enter BIOS (Del key) and set your Hard Drive Boot Order so the SATA starts first. Reboot and you'll be fine.
