Ok so this board isn't up to the task, but I loved it!

[B]What board exactly, (brand, model number) will be best for my Tinker Rig?

Here's what I have here that I will be using.

Quad water cooled, will overclock to 3.47Mhz on water but the bios on the mobo it was on just let you change the multi and nothing else.

CK, I think you need to have a heart to heart with Scottie before moving forward. You're setting yourself up for disappointment going 680i, regardless of the logo on the box. There simply isn't that much difference between the individual boards: the 680i is not a stable or easily manipulated chipset upon which to overclock. Orange DIMM slots won't change that fact. tongue.gif laugh.gif

I'm not trying to rain on the parade here -- just spare you grief down the road. Even if you get it up and running with a modest overclock, you're looking at ungodly heat to contend with, compared to the modest heat output of the P5K board. And, odds are, the modest overclock will be just that: modest. The 680i's FSB limitations really throw a monkey wrench in the works in attempting to overclock ANY processor. To get any form of stability, you end up running so much voltage through the CPU that you are certain to shorten it's life expectancy.

CPU: If you're going to spend a $1,000 on a CPU, spend a couple bucks more and get the QX6850. It's a much better piece of silicon and runs at cooler temps. I've owned both and sold the QX6700 within one week after installing the 6850 -- and I probably had one of the very best QX6700's out there, in terms of OC capacity. Additionally, the 6850 has the 1333 FSB, compared to the 6700's 1066.

I realize you get impatient and excited -- we all do -- but spending this kind of dough, think on it for 24 hours and weigh your options. smile.gif

No you misunderstand bro, I'm not buying anymore pc shite other than a motherboard if that.
I HAVE all the other stuff here already.

See what i mean? it's a freebee in a sense and people on ebay are fucking cheap goat molesters! biggrin.gif

I'll just use the new P5N32-E SLI Plus i have here since there doesn't seem to be an mobo that can handle a quad and SLI.

Remember this is my tinker toy, benchmarking for the highest score, one ultra is not gunna cut it.

the dell is fine, got xp pro 64 and vista 32 dual booting and i'm not touching it.
thats my gamer.

but to do nothing with that quad and 2 ultras 1k psu, ram, is just a waste.

i need to tinker, it helps my depression.

gotta be something that would suffice or just use what i have, the P5N32-E SLI Plus.

With those cards the Plus will lose a little at the every edge of the envelope (very high resolution and very high load). Nothing that you can't make up with the higher overclocks it is capable of and if you aren't watercooling the GPUs you may never see that marginal loss. I had great luck with that board as did a few others here. Never ran a quad on it but Jason was top dog for our team in Forum Wars on a Plus with quad.

You'll definitely score some high numbers with that above kit. If you really want to tinker you can look into watercooling. That will keep you busy for a few months. biggrin.gif The Plus loves water BTW.
