I didn't know you were getting an 860 Turbo. Seriously jealous in Virginia Beach now. tongue.gif

Nice pics Jason.

I think the PC P&C 860 is a true gem. From what I was told, it is their next gen psu that they will create others from. I am so tempted to sell my 1KW-SR for one of those. It would allow me to mount a 240 rad on the topside of my case.

The 'Log Cabin Republican' color scheme was a tip of the hat to you, Merc. biggrin.gif laugh.gif

3870 X2 Card Installed. Everything running fine.

The card is so huge, I had to remove the reservoir clip at the back of the case. In this first photo, I left the small rear res out of the case, so you have a better idea of the scale of the X2 with waterblock mounted. I will be installing a second X2 when the Crossfire drivers are available. I think I will have to turn the res on its side and position it below the bottom video card (it fits oriented on its side, but I lose use of the bottom PCIx slot):

I was able to make room for the res only by replacing protruding PCI slot thumbscrews with regular, shallower case screws. Here is the res mounted in place:

The camera's flash mutes the UV effect of the sleeving and Swiftech coil wrap. The UV glow at night is fairly dramatic; much more so than it appears in the photos. I did not use UV coolant, based on bad personal experience with UV dyes in the past. Using UV dyes voids the warranty on EK Waterblocks:

A masterpiece Jason! Looks great at night. Good to know that it all worked out ok. The quick-release fittings are a great find. I'm going to have to eventually work them into my system.

Thanks, Professor. wink.gif It will be close quarters with addition of the second X2, but doable.

I just PM'd you with a question. Installation of the X2 went swimmingly, with the exception of an unrecognized PCI device. Windows gives me no clue as to what that device is (or what it thinks it is). Did you experience this?

WOW. That is all I can say. You have to have been on the FW's team last year to know what Jas has gone through to get here. I am very happy for you a mate as that thing could make MAD MOD in Max PC. You have truly accomplished something there. Get some press. I love the ghetto short in the 24 pin. LOL. I know it is going away but I still love it. Makes it more hardcore. Makes me feel at home.

can't wait for the decision on the couplers. I may dive into the deep end on those. You guys are jading me! Where is the Hitman to get my head staright? Oh wait, he just bought a freakin dual GPU card. Oy. Am I the last one? LOL

I PMed you about the unknown PCI device, I had the same thing... As these 3870 cards have HDMI on them its likely that the unknown device is the HDMI controller for the audio... Ignore it biggrin.gif

LOL..Mate I'm not gonna be much help to you, I've lashed out on this 3870x2 as well as the Cellshock DDR3.. I'm the last person to talk sense into you regarding extravagant and impulse purchases lest I be a hypocrite...

As it stands my advice would be buy a 3870x2, a Maximus Extreme and some Hi-Po DDR3 biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Dont listen to me, I'm a BAD man...

I'm having some fun tho... Made it up to 60pts on HWBOT running nearly everything on stock clocks..

I spent a few hours running the 3DM06 benchmark this evening with a variety of setting combinations. I'm still sorting out this new RAM, Super Talent Project X 1800, but so far the results are impressive.

With FSB 450MHz, RAM at 1800MHz, multi 10x and 1.625 vcore, 3DM06 score was 21,669: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5284830

With FSB 460MHz, multi 10x and 1.625 vcore, RAM at auto, 3DM06 score was 21,693:
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=5285366

These scores were obtained without any GPU/VRAM card overclock. With FSB at 460MHz, the computer would boot with RAM at 1840MHz, but would not complete 3DMark -- RAM had to be set to auto to complete 3DM06 at 4.600 GHz.

3870 X2 Overclocked @ 900/1100MHz GPU/VRAM 4.650GHz. 460MHz FSB. 10x. 1.65 vcore (1.693 BIOS). 1.74 PLL, 1.65 NB, 1.150 SB, 1.60 Term. High CPU Diode Temp @ idle 45C.

3DM06 Score: 22,613

What impresses me about this chip and video card combination is that I'm seeing this sort of increase in scores over my QX6850/8800GTX SLI system. My best score on that rig was 20,238 (at a 4.00 GHz OC).

Imagine the increase after adding the second X2 card. I'm hoping ATI will release tha beta Crossfire driver prior the 12th. If not, I may have to turn to my Russian, hacker friend for a leg up . . . wink.gif
