Is it normal for one core to be reading 15 degrees higher then the other with core temp?

bowentw- 04-05-2007
In CPU-Z my HT Link is at 1021 and RAM frequency is 217 (DDR Speed 333, if I set it back up to 400 I don't boot), that okay?

1021 is fine on the HT. 217 MHz may require a dose of voltage. Don't try and overclock everything at once. Take the memory out of the equation by dropping the divider to 266. Then run Orthos. If it fails you know you need more Vcore. If it is fine then we'll tweak the RAM.

Thanks Merc.

Well I ran Orthos (blend) as is overnight without changing the settings from what I had them at and didn't come up with any errors and a max temp of 51. Should I still work on getting that 217 Mhz down or see how it goes for a few days?

If it ran orthos all night with no errors I would call that pretty stable.
And yes it is normal for the cores to read different temps. Most all of them do.

Sweet. I'm going to stop pushing it for now, maybe I'll post my final settings a bit later for you guys to comment on (I'm at work now). I can really tell the difference using the system with the overclocked settings. Hey, if if blows up I'll just have to tell the wife I need a new processor and pick up an FX, the prices for those these days are about the same as what I picked this x2 up for (though it seems hard getting hold of 939 chips these days)!

Thanks again guys for all you help, both with when I was building the system last year and with the overclock. You do a fantastic job here.

thats a great OC for the 4200, i couldnt get stable at 2650 for more than a few hrs, once and only once i got to 2700 and ran 1M super pi for the challenge and thats all i got out of it. i tried it later for the 32M super pi but windows wouldnt boot. for a while i was runnin at 2550 or 2500 but then started having issues so i stopped, now i run stock. my temps also peaked at 51 or 52. i really dont think that my temps were an issue but still think if i had a better heatsink i might have been more stable even at 2500.

i have a thread somewhere here about my OC adventure

good job on the OC
