(I looked through the archives, but didn't find this particular issue already discussed, so....)

This question pertains to my rebuild rig (listed second in my sig).

Sometimes, not always, when I power up my rig with a push to the front panel power switch, the power switch surround lights for maybe a second, then goes off, and the rig doesn't boot. It's been doing this every once in awhile ever since I built this PC with its RMA'ed mobo in this new case.

I initially, naively, thought maybe it was the power switch itself. I sent an email to Rosewill, thinking maybe they'd send along a replacement switch. They dispatched a whole front panel, including the switch. biggrin.gif Since the problem never has gotten worse, I haven't put the replacement front panel on the case... yet.

Before I received the front panel, I did some experimenting, and I discovered even when the PC wouldn't start (after this false start), the green light was still lit on the mobo. I double-checked all the connections, and even put the PSU -*test*-('")er on every cable, and nothing looked out of the ordinary.

I finally came across the discovery if I turned off the PSU using it's rear case switch, counted to ten (until the green mobo light went out), then turned the PSU back on, then pushed the front-case power switch, everything powered up normally.

I went for maybe a month with this false start happening only once or twice a week. Now it's happening more often, so I have to power off/on the PSU.

Now, I may be forcing this to happen more often because I got tired of Vista's inability to consistently recover from hibernation/sleep, and I usually power down this rig when I'm away from it for any extended period.

Does my power-on symptom ring a bell with anyone? Is there something in the BIOS I might have inadvertently reset that would cause this, or is this just a "normal" occurance with this mobo? It's conceivable I have the power switch leads backwards (although if the power switch LCD surround lights normally, I think the polarity is okay). I don't remember this happening when the original mobo (before the RMA) was running for almost a year in my Lian-Li case.

Thanks.

...Karl
