I installed the other ram and everything was OK. I did have to lower thee fsb as this memory wasn't able to handle the higher fsb. I will RMA the DDR600 RAM. I will post the results when I get it back. Thanks for the help!

Merc- 01-29-2007
You can keep the higher FSB, just use a lower divider.

OldFilmFan- 01-29-2007
Hi Merc, I will give that a try. However when I tried it before this ram didn't like a low divider.

Merc- 01-29-2007
I have my pinch hitter RAM on a 100 divider, 334 FSB. Slow but not a big deal as it is just till I get the new rig up and running. Same for you as You'll just pull it when you get the fast stuff back from RMA.

OldFilmFan- 02-15-2007
I got the RAM back and it is working OK. I am running at 2.8gHZ with no trouble. I could go higher, but my temps are pretty high with the cooling I have. The room I have my computer in is pretty warm even though it is winter. I can live with 2.8 and if I decide to get better cooling, I can push it up a little higher.

WannaGoFast- 02-15-2007
Glad things are working better for you. 2.8Ghz is a fine oc. Should run real nice.
Once you start getting up over that things get hot pretty quick unless you have really good CPU cooling.
I wasnt able to run much higher then that either until I got the Monsoon TEC cooler in my sig.

Good luck and have fun cool.gif

WGF, the very man, can you tell me what settings would give me 2.4 Ghz, I've tried to push the fsb up to 240 but the multiplier auto changes to 8 from 10. I ended up with the darn thing going slower, and AI overclocker only goes to 10% = 2200 or 2.2. Thank you.

WannaGoFast- 08-15-2007
Rather then trying to explain the whole process to ya Dee...why dont ya try reading this.

Its a real good quicky guide to overclock the A8N32 mobo. Its how I started.
Read through that and then post up here any questions you have after that.

Ok WGF, I'll get to that asap, I thought that not wanting to o/c to the extreme should have just meant changing a few settings, but I understand that with different hardware comes different results. By the way, Merc was right, there is a 'wee overclockin' devil' in us all. Thank you, Dee.

Careful Dee!! Once that devil gets a hold of you....a lil is never enough wink.gif

Soon you will have a 4ghz Intel, Dual 8800GTX's, and be goin to forum wars with us tongue.gif

J/K, have fun with it. smile.gif

Well, that didn't go so well. The O/Cing guide is probably fine and in the proper language....english...... but doesn't allow for the type of english we speak in N. Ireland ph34r.gif .......lol. I think the problem is that yer man was using bios version 1009, as I'm on ver 1303. There seemed to be references that weren't in my bios (probably me just being my usual stupid self) and ones I didn't have control of. Like after I moved the fsb up to a miserly 230 and did most of the other settings, in bootup and cpuz, the multiplier was down to 9 and gave me a speed of 2070. Now considering it was at 2200 prior to this, that would make an o/c of minus 6% roughly. Well..... I suppose it's an o/c of sorts (back to the glass being half full or half empty).
Have now printed out the o/c guide, it will remain my constant companion till such times as all is digested, or ingested, as suggested.
Forum Wars will probably have to wait a while (do you all believe in reincarnation) if I am to make an impact......but all in good time.
Meanwhile, we'll just amble along and give it a bit o' welly later....I'll keep you informed, Dee.

Incidentally, what would be the difference between the P5N32-E SLI Plus and the non plus, I know that the non plus has the 680i and the plus doesn't.....but other than that? Thank you, Dee.

cool_case- 08-16-2007
The Plus has a rep as a super overclocking board, much better than the not plus. However, if you're looking for a new board, the ASUS p5k deluxe is the best one out for a *non-sli* set up. It's the oc'ing king right now.

This will hopefully get ya going the right way Dee
