just installed new card 10 mins ago when i power up my computer the fan on the graphics card works fine then all of a sudden nothing fan sits static any ideas or just a faulty card
I know when a video card is first installed, at boot up the fan should be running at full speed, then going into windows, it slows down when the video drivers kick in.
A few things you can do:
Uninstall the drivers, remove the card, then reinsert the card, then boot up and reinstall the drivers.
Install riva tuner and use the fan controller it has to see if it adjust the fan speed.
If neither of these helps, then give BFG a call.
cant control fan with rivatuner removed card and reinstalled drivers the fan is turning but slowly idle temp 75c
I think that is fairly normal. in reading all the reviews a lot of the techs weren't happy that even under load you couldn't get the fan to spin up to max speed. It's a quiet card but at a price. 75C seems a little high for idle i think they normally run hot but i didn't think it was quite that hot. Have you tried to see how hot it would get under load? It may be that you trip the fan at 80C and then things cool down.
you may have to look at getting a aftermarket cooler if things get really hot (ie shutdowns or slowdowns) or wait for a new set of drivers with better heat management.
look round and see if i'm right about the temps being naturally high. Afterall you are running what is effectively a GTX.
the strange thing was i decided to play cod 4 on max settings for about 2 hrs then i checked the temp and it would not go above 75.going to run 3d mark and see what happens
That's a little hotter than I remember my 8800's running on air. That said, if your load temps are not exceeding 75, then you probably don't have much to worry about. They will run and run well at that temp. I would prefer to see you no higher than the mid 60's for the sake of the longevity of the card, but that's just me.
ill get some better cooling for the card in the new year, thanks everyone for ur help
well we don't want to go looking for trouble but it's interesting that the temps sit right around 75...do you have any way of recording the temps vs. time instead of exiting your game and then pulling up your diagnostics? That way we could see if the card is cooling off in the time that it takes you to pull up your diagnostics. How did the 3d mark -*test*-('")ing go? anything interesting there to look at there? (other than a score greater than mine)
3d mark score 10069 temp sat at 75c and didnt increase at all suppose this is ok still going to fit another fan later on
