Well, my first exprience with my ASUS Striker II Extreme mobo went like this. I got it up and running and I noticed it did not reconize my CPU a QX9770, so off I go to ASUS web site and I found a beta bios for the QX9770 with C1 stepping. mind you evething else seemed work great I had been up and running for 24 hours. So I flashed to the new bios and then she wouldn't even post. I call ASUS and they said bios was corrupe....LOL so that was my first shot at a 790i board... waiting for new mobo, RMAed that one. Thanks New egg, so we will try it again next week....LOL

Wow. Not fun. Sorry to hear that, QR. A recent beta BIOS release for the Maximus Extreme had similar reported corruption issues.

Did you try putting the motherboard CD in and turning on to see if it would suck the old bios off the disk??

I was just about to try the beta bios for the MAX... Dont think I will now.. LOL

yeah the ASUS tech guy had me even try a different CPU. it just wouldn't do anything.

Just out of curiosity, and for future reference, how did you attempt flashing the S2E's BIOS?

I used a thumb drive and flashed it in the bios. my second board is working great on 0511 bios

Just an update bois is now up to 0603 and I can pretty much settle on 4.05GHz for everyday use 1800MHz FSB, MEM @ 1800MHz also, Board is a bout as stable as 680i, seems that didn't change much yet, ASUS still needs a better bios, some memory settings can't be changed yet, but word is there working on that. Would I recomend this board?..humm only if you have a lot a patience, it will work fine all day benching and the next day not even boot. Ran prime for 8 hours and it pasted tried to reboot it failed, stuff like that. Any way have been around much work is busy, hope ya all are doing fine.

Progress is definetly being made with these 790i boards. Tweaking the bios to get the right settings is a must, but there is some good support out there in various forums.
I think if Nvidia brings out there newest cards at the same time, or a little bit after ATI does, a 790i SLI setup will rule in the Summer Wars.

well I haven't been around much because i am on my third Mobo ...LOL
