Classic question. What are you guys looking forward to this holiday season? ATI's 55nm 3800 dx10.1 GPU or the N's 65nm 8800GT dx10.0?

Personally, the price on the GT is very hard to pass up. So unless AMD passes out something spectacular in the same price range that'll be my christmas...and half a months rent.

Both of ATI's 3800 series cards should be priced at and lower than the 8800GT. I wouldn't be surprised if the higer card is as good if not better than the 8800GT. Also, both of the ATI cards are DX10.1, so they might have the edge.

Nvidia should have a monster of a card when they release their new high end series, but who knows when that will be. I've read more reports of it being next year instead of before christmas.
As everyones been stating, NV's new cards is what the 8800gts should have been.
Hopefully thre won't be a reinactment of the 7800gtx release, then the 7900gtx release, which was only 6 months apart.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the 3800 series will perform.

In the meantime I'm loving gaming life with the 8800GTX, which is still Nvidia's king of the hill.

I came across the same article when i was reading up on the GT and whether it was 10one compliant. I found it very odd that NV would release a card that is no longer up to the current standard. Maybe, I haven't noticed before because I wasn't aware of the intricasies the usually occur with the release of new tech. After all, I've only been really active in computers since XP came to be mainstream so I wasn't (aware) around for the DX8 and 8.1 debacle i've heard rumors about.

As counter to your argument that the 8800GTX is still the big kahuna, in terms of single cards without taking price into account, it is the best. But, for the money you could get 2 GT's in SLI which is supposed to be better than a GTX (didn't see anything on SLI GT compared to ULTRA). It also beats the GTX in power to power applied ratio.

I suppose most of the big users here are all running GTX's anyway so they don't really care about the GT. Still the 3xxx series has to be something for them to be interested in. (this is where all the GTX users chime in.) biggrin.gif
