Good news for all of us... but AMD hasnt even brought out a response to conroe yet. Im starting to lose a bit of hope here.
Actually, this revitalizes some of my hope for AMD. IBM is a juggernaut in the research area. If IBM decides AMD is going to be successful in this, then it will come to fruition. They could give a rats behind about Intel. They want cheap, low power consumption chips for their BIG servers, and of late, they've been tapping AMD more and more.
I think the Barcelona line will get AMD back in the game, if not in the lead. 45nm for Intel will now arrive about the same time that AMD goes 45nm, early '08. Yes, Intel has backed off till Q1 '08. If the Barcelona lineage comes out and can compete (AMD claims a 40% performance increase over Core 2) then this will be a very interesting year or two.
