heh, like i was saying in another thread, this stuff has been around for several months or so and more stuff like it.
they milk the stuff that you can buy now, but was also made and on a shelf when we were buying 7950 cards and 7900gt's
what fuckin game is gunna need 3 ultras in sli, a 4.0+ Ghz qquad, DDR3 ram, and the DDR4 is on a shelf now you can bet.
just a handful of games are just taking advantage of whats out now.
bioshock was chuggin a little bit on mercs super rig with a GTS.
not the rig, but the game code.
see now, devs can get lazy and not have to optimize the code and take shortcuts because the hardware now will still run it.
it's fun and all, but every 2 months of milking us with the best there is, they go and pull the next one off the shelf and ohhh, now you need this.
no, i need a proper OS and drivers, bios versions that rock and not 15 9800 Ultras in sli mode FF sake.
maan what a freaking rant ehh?
Just another thing I can't afford..
If adding a 3rd card gives you the same level of performance increase over 2, as adding a 2nd does to 1, then it should be very interesting.
However to the Capn's point, having quality drivers would give a big boost to the current cards.
We'll see.
I'm just going to get the next generation 9xxx series nvidia card when that comes out and that'll do me just fine, might be the same as an 8800 ultra but a lot cheaper.
You're right capn I DONT need 3SLI...I've said it before, a real man doesnt use SLI

..as in, Super Long Intercourse?
now there is something that I DO need
I know they've got the PPU stuff on the shelf I guess the era of 60,000 boulders accurately falling down a hill is over though. Since the realease of DX10 it's all about textures and layering of said textures. That's what i figured would happen with 3 cards lugged in. It'd be nice to be able to keep my 6800 around to run as a PPU while they release these 9 series cards. I bet my 6800 would run a lot better than those ageia cards.
It's kinda weird DX10 was a stop gap for DX10one and vista was a stopgap for windows 7 and 8 series cards were a stopgap for 9 series cards. this is an era of delay. I can't imagine being a hardware historian. in the past 5 years we've had at least 7 distinct generations of graphics advancement. lost where i was going with this...distractions walking around the union here you know.
How about a tri-sli fitted with three 7950x2? would or can that be accomplished? that would mean 6sli?
You need 2 SLI connectors on the cards, which the 7950x2 didnt have...Awful card anyway. The ATI 3870X2 will have those type of connectors so we will see Tri Crossfire with those cards that adds up to 6

It's analogous to high end audio equipment -- the more esoteric, the greater the prospect of diminishing returns.
Tim has the right idea here -- sit it out for the 9 series cards.
