You have a good chip there Chuck. What Bin # and pack date? I think the 9450 is going to be a barn burner. I am going against my self imposed rules and spending $350 on that one because I really think it is going to be special. Just have that feeling and I am a quaddie addict, now, after the Q6600 G0. I am betting it will run at 4.0Ghz and 1.35v. Probably wrong but I haven't wanted a chip like this since the 165's. My Q6600 was the best ever, though, and I just can't say no to it's new brother. I really hate that the 6600 is sitting in a box. mad.gif

I've been working on the ddr3 timings and seeing how low I can set them at 1.83v

So far I'm at 8-7-6-15 1T

It definetly does the rated 7-7-7-21 2T yet needs the 2.0v. Plus seeing how the mobo overvolts the vdimm, its tough to get too precise.

I'm trying to see how tight I can run it with the lower vdimm.

Stable at 4050 and 1.29v means you have the best chip to date. Can't wait to see where this one goes on that dual loop rig. biggrin.gif

I actually bought two of these exact same bin#/pack date at Frys for $189 each, and I still have the other unopened.

Core Temp shows the VID to be 1.1125v (don't know if thats standard or not)

Merc- 02-05-2008
Coretemp shows the stock voltage.

Coretemp shows the stock voltage.

From my understanding, the VID coretemp shows is the vcore that the manf used for the specific cpu's clock speed. So the 1.1125v was the required vcore for this specific cpu. Thus, a lower VID should result in more voltage headroom when overclocking then a higher VID.

Coretemp shows the stock voltage.

..and on mine it showed 1.665v the other day, not that it helped any..biggrin.gif

I edited my last post Chuck. Mine shows 1.1125 as well on Coretemp.

I think these chips love the cold Paul. So get the DICE out, mate and blow us away. biggrin.gif

Ha -

The la-*test*-('") version of cpu-z report the vcore in windows correctly.

So Chuck, what are you planning for that chip?

I decided to keep the Q6700 based on the recent surplus on Ebay (plus it's just such a nice chip). It's really strange, I just don't want to give it up so I look for excuses to keep it, lol.

I'm 80% sure I'll be heading into the FW with the Q6700. Who knows though, I may crack and try to get a Q9450 if they're available in time.

After a couple days of stability -*test*-('")ing using numerous benching and gaming, I'm feeling this will be my daily speed and setup.

Does anyone see any ill effects with my system running this cpu at 4050Mhz at 1.29v with these reported temps as my daily clock?

Oh and by the way, this baby is lightning fast, seriously. cool.gif

cool_case- 02-07-2008
Wow - very nice!

So, you got the RAM to run @ 1800Mhz with 1.94 vdimm. What did you set vdimm to in the BIOS?

With those temps and that vcore, I think you'll be safe to run it there 24 / 7. I'm sure it is really fast -- zipping along at 4GHz.

Before you settle in - push that baby for an hour or so and run 3DM benches @ 4.3GHz+ and get team AI some more bot points - a no sweat warm up for the FWs.

That is great! I was planning on about the same for mine. Tcase max is 65c and Tjunction max is 105c . You are well below both of those and just barely above the stock voltage. You have very cool temps and low Vcore and incredible speed so i'd say you have perfect settings for this chip.

I have the vdimm set to 1.84 in the bios. No issues running it at 1800. I'll see how much higer it will go over the weekend.

My thinking is for $190, I'll run this cpu at 4050 all day long. This is the first time I haven't gone with the high dollar extreme cpu, so not too worried about pushing it.

Whoa... 1.29v !! ohmy.gif Go easy tiger, you dont wanna go burning that bad boy up now do we biggrin.gif

I'm more worried about your DDR3 than that chip LOL... DDR3 runs hotter so maybe some active cooling on them isnt such a bad idea.. especially around 2.0v.. Thinking about getting some active cooling when i get my DDR3 too...

Problem with these chips are that they are TOO cheap, the inhouse benchmark threads are gonna be in a constant state of flux for a while...
