The cpu temp difference is because the tjunction temp is wrong on one of the utilities.  The tjunction should be either 85c or 100c.  When it's set to 85c it will give you the lower readings.  At 100c it will give you the higher readings.

The author of the cpu temp utility called Core Temp generally keeps up with the new chips and has the tjunction set right for the chip.  You'll see the tjunction setting when you install and run the utility.

Core Temp shows 100c as does Everest, like I said in the BIOS it'll show the lower cpu temp as well, all apps give correct temps for cores but cpu temp in Everest, BIOS, Speedfan and HWMonitor show low???

The core temps are a much more accurate reading than the "overall" cpu temp.

I'll have to go by those temps then cpu temp being relative I assume unsure.gif

Big news P5K Deluxe owners. Jason (JMKays) has done some in-depth study of all the new voltage settings and had some luck on his board with setting "Load Line Calibration" to Enabled. I had great luck with it. Here are my results:

LLC Auto LLC Enabled
BIOS Vcore 1.45v 1.45v
Idle Vcore 1.41v 1.42v
Load Vcore 1.38v 1.42v

LLC appears to be CPU Damper only better on the P5K Deluxe with 0705 BIOS. It should have a similar effect on all P5 boards with 45nm capable BIOS versions.

Thanks for the work Jason. wink.gif biggrin.gif

EDIT: Not sure why the format is screwed up but you should be able to read results regardless.

So far I'm very happy with the new 0504 Asus P5K-Premium BIOS. Probably the biggest asset is the availability of a new North Bridge FSB Strap setting -- 400 MHz setting (up from 333 MHz). This allowed me to bump my RAM from 800 MHz to 1066 MHz (2.1v, 5-5-5-15).

I'm running the Q6600 @ 50% overclock of 3.61 GHz for everyday use and it's rock stable at moderate temps (48C, idle; 60C under load). That's higher than I could get the QX6850 to run stable for long periods (at 1/4 the price). I use a 9x multi, 1.4375v CPU, and FSB set to 400 MHz. I manually set NB voltage to 1.55v and SB to 1.20v. I set CPU GTL Voltage Reference to .63x and NB GTL Voltage Reference to .67x. Clock Over-Charging Voltage is set to .80v.

The odd thing is that lowering the NB and SB voltages resulted in 5C - 10C higher temps.

I spent a few hours last night trying various settings, running Prime95 to -*test*-('") temps and stability. What I found was that enabling "Load Line Calibration" has the grea-*test*-('") effect in reducing vDroop of the new available voltage settings (CPU Voltage Damper is no longer available). Temps -- 48C - 68C running Prime95 on all four cores for 90 minutes (zero errors).

Right now I have set Vcore at 1.425v (formally 1.45) with LLC enabled. Boots at 1.40 and with P95x4 the Vcore is at 1.38v-1.39v. Running at 3402MHz and I may take it up to 3600 like Jason's if this LLC works as well as it seems to be.

Paul, it seems like this is the best BIOS to date. Even less Vdroop than 0404 or 0305 with more choices for RAM settings (there is a 400MHz now I believe). So mate, clear the tracks for that 8500 with no worries.

Two hours in with four threads running and everything is stable. 1.425v set in BIOS, POSTs at 1.40v and at load I read 1.39v with Everest 4.20. I'd say this BIOS is a winner and will recommend that you upgrade to 0705 even if you are happy with 0404 or 0305 as you will have four straps to set your RAM rather than just three. Very stable, wider strap choice and less Vdroop makes this one a winner. Thanks again Jason for the BIOS study. user posted image

Paul- Flash it now and get used to it before that 8500 shows up. You won't be disappointed regardless of which CPU you are using. biggrin.gif

Merc... when I get sober tomorrow, or god willing, the day after.. I shall flash to 0705 in preparation for the e8500.

If I get it that is.. As soon as I placed my order the thing went from pre-order to out of stock so I pray to God mine was the last order to come thru biggrin.gif

Watch put guys I'm coming for you on pi.. David, Rick ..and Mike for taking my 3dmark01 lol...This year that paste eating bastard Ray won know what hit him in FW08..

From what i've see tho on pictures of the e8500 box, the vid is something like 1.250.. stock with a 333FSB, this bodes well because if the calculations are right (prof david may back me up here) a 1.5 vcore could in theory be good for something 4.5+ past air on good ambients with the stock cooler which is rated for 65w and is a lot smaller than the e6600 stock HSF..

Good air with a good chip may go past 4.5ghz... still, a quad will always smash the 3dmarks past 03 a bit harder with a qaud no matter what you do , especially with SLI or X-fire..Its your call gents.. Ray's biased this years FW toward 3dmakrks, but theres always HWBOT biggrin.gif

Way to go Paul! Gearing up for Australia Day?

With Jason's good work on the BIOS study I'll plan on upgrading sometime in the next week or two. Big football weekend coming up and I'm traveling all next week.

Having an extra strap may give me a little more in SuperPI. The memory wants to run faster but with the 10x multiplier and FSB combination I couldn't find a good "hole".

Thanks for the good work Jason!

As Rick is a big Packers fan sad.gif being from WI, and I'm a big Cowboys fan smile.gif being from Dallas, I wonder if we might both be in the NFC Conf game in a few weeks. cool.gif

Making it past Seattle is the first step but a champoinship game in Dallas would be fun too!

I'm trying to keep things in perspective but, damn, I'm getting fired up!

Good luck against the Giants Chuck!

OK, back on topic....BIOS.
